Student Prayer Requests - June 22, 2011

Greetings

I think I kind of got the feeling a grade school teacher has on the 1st day of a new school year this evening, when I looked out of the classroom window at Sheridan waiting for the arrival of new students for SOCPM's 3rd Renewing Fatherhood class.

Jon of Discipleship 101 is an all SOCPM times student as he has been recognized in all SOCPM programs at Sheridan. Discipleship 101; Trusting God Even When Life Hurts will be his SOCPM 5th class. His streak will end though after completion of this sessions's class as he will be paroled in September. Unless I of course can convince him to stay a few extra months NOT.

You may have noticed another link to the left 'Other.' I'll be listing prayers from miscellaneous encounters; one on one mentoring, correctional staff, etc.

Special note; This week an inmate in Kendall County jail professed faith in one of his Bible study essay questions. Praise God!!!

Thanks for your prayers

Glory to Him and Him alone.

GOSPEL MISSIONARIES NEEDED

JAIL-MAIL

from Chaplain Tom                            June 25, 2012

What a glorious, Gospel morning!

Our monthly, short-term, foreign mission trip to Stateville Prison's NRC Unit.

Saturday, June 16th.  We met at McDonald's at 8 AM, for a short time of training & prayer.  We then checked in at Stateville's Visitors  Center, and proceded to the NRC Unit. Over the next couple of hours, we provided a "Gospel Witness" to about 750 inmates, some just a few minutes, others longer.

(NRC = Northern Reception & Classification.  All men from northern Illinois, newly-sentenced to Illinois' Prisons are "locked down" here for a few weeks for classification prior to assignment to their "home prisons.")

These men are "starving" for something to do, anything to do!  They have no TV, no radio, no books, no nothing...except what we take them.  Being newly-sentenced, they are very open to the things of God!  So, we take them Bibles, New Testaments, and Christian books & literature.  We talk & pray with them.

YOU CAN JOIN THESE MISSION TRIPS!  YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY $100's OR $1,OOO's TO TAKE THE GOSPEL TO ANOTHER CULTURE!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO FLY TO FAR-AWAY LANDS TO "GO INTO ALL THE WORLD AND PREACH THE GOSPEL!"

YOU ARE NEEDED, RIGHT HERE AT HOME!

(must be 18 or older, no felony convictions)

Email tbeatty@waysidecross.org for more information,

or click here for an application!

I realize not everyone can go, so if you cannot,

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,

to send out workers into His harvest field.

THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL, BUT THE WORKERS ARE FEW.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Inmates desperately need our Christian witness!

Jesus is the only REAL answer!

Without our witness, how will they hear about Jesus?

(I think it's against the law for government employees to tell them -

something about the separation of common sense & government?)

CHRISTIANS, IT'S UP TO US!

DISTRIBUTE BIBLES & CHRISTIAN LITERATURE

in the

KENDALL COUNTY JAIL

Every Tuesday morning, we take a Book Cart around the jail, offering the men Bibles, Christian Books and Bible Lessons.

Because we're there, faithfully, week after week, we get to  build a bit of a relationship of trust with the men.  As this happens, we're then sought out for Pastoral Counseling.

For more information and/or for applications, please email Chaplain Tom at

tbeatty@waysidecross.org.

You must have your Pastor's recommendation.

MORE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

BIBLE LESSON GRADERS

Every Tuesday, 7 - 9 PM, our Grading Team meets at Redeemer Fellowship Church in St. Charles, to grade Bible Lessons completed by inmates. We need more Graders! Grading Keys & Training are provided.  Just show up!  Make a difference!

LITERATURE DISTRIBUTORS

Every 3rd Saturday of the month, we visit cell-to-cell in Stateville's NRC Unit. These men are locked-down 23 hours/day, with no TV, no radio, no programs. We take the inmates literature & pray with them.  You must be 18 or older, with no felony record, and security-cleared in advance.  You may only participate once every three months.

hates it!

CHRISTIAN DADS!

WE HAVE A FRESH OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY IMPACT THE MEN IN THE ILLINOIS' PRISONS!

On our Dads' Classes "Road Teams," we present the same Dads' Classes we have weekly in many local County Jails, but we present them in a 2-Day Seminar.  We  visit Prisons, where weekly classes simply are not an option for us.  Our purpose is to:

  • Bring the Gospel to the inmates in the context of fatherhood,
  • Ignite an interest in the men to become better Dads, break the  generational cycle of crime, reduce recidivism, and
  • Ignite an interest in the Prison Staff to welcome the year-long Malachi Dads' Program.

"Road Team" members lead small-group discussions between the classes, and may lead classes (your choice).  We pay our own expenses (travel, motel & some meals).  Class materials are provided.  You have the choice to lead one of the classes.

Dave Haidle (Road Team member):  "The majority of men in prison are fathers, and contrary to what many might think, these men are eager to be good fathers to their children.  Our communities can only benefit from these men becoming better fathers.  I can't think of a better investment of time than to be teaching eager men about God's perspective on fathering. It is challenging, humbling and rewarding;  plus you get to know other brothers in Christ on a deeper level as you soldier together."

WE NEED MEN TO JOIN OUR "ROAD TEAMS!"

(Must be 18 or older, no felony record, Pastor's recommendation)

Email Chaplain Tom!

You may sign up for more than one trip

to more than one prison.

Please forward this opportunity to others!
