CHAPLAINS TRAINING ACADEMY - not just for Chaplains!

JAIL-MAIL from Chaplain Tom       NEW LIFE CORRECTIONS MINISTRY

A Division of Wayside Cross Ministries

  January 31, 2011                                   215 E. New York St., Aurora IL 60505

 Chaplains Training Academy

April 24 - 28, 2012

NOTE FROM CHAPLAIN TOM:  I have worked with Rich Hines for many years, and have valued his training.  This EXCELLENT training is not just for Chaplains, but for all who are called to be Christ's ambassadors "behind bars," full-time or part-time, to all who want to be better-equipped to minister to inmates & correctional staff - in Bible Studies, One-on-One Counseling, Worship Services, evangelism and discipleship.

The Chaplains Training Academy will be held Tuesday - Friday, April 24 - 27, 6 - 10 PM, at New Covenant Bible Church, 4N780 Randall Road, St. Charles IL, and Saturday, April 28 at Wayside Cross Ministries, in Aurora.

CHAPLAINS TRAINING ACADEMY

For many years Rich Hines (leader of our One-Day Seminars) received requests for more in depth chaplaincy training. That's one reason he produced the Jail Ministry Training Manual. But it became obvious we needed something more. Many unattached Chaplains are asking for training and for us to validate them as "Fit for Biblical Correctional Chaplaincy." Here's an example of a letter sent to Rich from a Chaplain from Ohio.

"Do you offer training for Chaplains? I am called a Chaplain, but I'd like to be trained and certified or credentialed. ... I have been involved with the Jail and Juvenile ministry for about 3 years now and the Chaplaincy I am involved in does not offer any credentialed training. ...I have a true calling I'm just trying to get my credentials to fulfill what He has started in me."

Starting in 2006, the Chaplains Training Academy (or, CTA) began. It will continue to take on new students in 2011-12, including a special arrangement for international students. Much of the study and course work will be done by distance learning and correspondence, but we will require 20 units of on site work at one or more of our campus locations.

About the Academy

The Chaplains Training Academy (CTA) has been established to serve Chaplains and trainees by providing training in biblical expertise, as well as a credential validating and sanctioning them as approved and fit for gospel ministry within a correctional facility.

A training session with five initial classes will be held Tuesday through Friday (April 24 - 27), 6 - 10 PM, at New Covenant Bible Church in St. Charles, plus one Saturday session (April 28), 9 AM - 3:30 PM, at Wayside Cross in Aurora.   Homework and outside course work will be required.

Upon satisfactory completion of a training session, a student will earn five units. More training sessions are held at different venues throughout the year. A CREDENTIAL would be given upon the completion of 20 units. This would normally take two years to earn.

For more information, or to register for the CTA, please contact Chaplain Rich at (360)722-2429, or rich@onlyhopeprisonministries.com. You may also visit http://www.onlyhopeprisonministries.com for an application. All applications will be prayerfully considered on a first come first served basis. There will be an initial application fee of $50.  (Please do not email Chaplain Tom with CTA reservations.)

HELP NEEDED for (inexpensive) DADS' CLASSES costs

JAIL-MAIL from Chaplain Tom

January 26, 2012

New Life Corrections Ministry
Wayside Cross Ministries

215 East New York Street
Aurora IL 60505

tbeatty@waysidecross.org

Could you please help us with the costs of the 'DADS' CLASSES?"

Actually, they're very inexpensive.

The "ROAD TEAM" members pick up the bulk of the costs.

Each "ROAD TEAM" member puts out about $150 - $200 for each trip to each prison.

The ministry's costs per inmate are only about $1.50

THAT'S RIGHT - $1.50 per inmate covers the costs of the class materials he receives, plus his Certificate of Completion.

Plus, we give each inmate 2 or 3 books

(which have all been donated, so we have no costs for them either).

So, with each Prison Seminar having about

60 inmates in attendance, with a donation of $90, you could cover the "per inmate" cost for a whole seminar!

THAT'S RIGHT - $90 covers the materials' cost for a whole seminar!

If donations are received in excess of the amount actually used for "Dads' Classes" materials,

(and Chaplain Tom asks that you please pray that happens)

the "overage" will be responsibly used toward other legitimate ministry expenses.

Please visit our main ministry website, www.waysidecross.org, and click on the RED HEART to make a donation.

"ROAD TEAMS" TAKE OUR

"DADS' CLASSES"

TO THE MEN IN THE ILLINOIS PRISONS!

Men are coming to the "Dads' Classes" who would NEVER come to a Bible Study or a church service.  They come even when the "Dads' Classes" are advertised as BIBLE-BASED & CHRIST-CENTERED.  These men don't want their kids to follow in their footsteps!  Many of these men are hearing the Gospel for the first time in their lives!

On our Dads' Classes "Road Teams," we present the same Dads' Classes we have weekly in many local County Jails, but we present them in a 2-Day Seminar.  We  visit Prisons, where weekly classes simply are not an option for us.  Our purpose is to:

  • Bring the Gospel to the inmates in the context of fatherhood,
  • Spark an interest in the men to become better Dads, break the  generational cycle of crime, reduce recidivism, and
  • Spark an interest in the Prison Staff to welcome the year-long Malachi Dads' Program.

"Road Team" members lead small-group discussions between the classes, and may lead classes (your choice).  We pay our own expenses (travel, motel & some meals).  Class materials are provided.

We need more Dads for each of these dates!

Dixon Correctional Prayer Requests

Greetings All;

I'm hoping that it was because you were busy and simply did not have time but I only received one response for our prayer requests that the students could pray for on your behalf. There is a desire among them to express gratitude towards your praying for them by them praying for you. Please if you have any pray request, perhaps of a more non personal type if you feel uncomfortable for them praying up personal requests. I do pray there will be more replies this week.

Because of last Friday's snow I did not teach at Sheridan and will not be there this week because of a personal commitment to my wife Michelle. I also am committed to another ministry need this Wednesday so there will be no prayer request from Dixon either.

Lord willing I'll be at Dixon a February 1 where we will celebrate the completion of the Renewing Fatherhood class. A praise as God has blessed SOCPM with approval to return to begin another 'Renewing Fatherhood' class February 15 or 22. In addition to 'Renewing Fatherhood'  SOCPM has been blessed by God by getting approval for a second class at Dixon, 'Discipleship 101'  that also starting either February 15 or 22

Dixon Correctional Center Renewing Fatherhood

Prayer Request – Wednesday January 18, 2012

David – Please continue to pray that God will lead my family reconciliation and that they someday will forgive me for what I have done and for not being there for them. Also for my walk with the Lord, that I may die to self in all areas of my life and allow God to direct my paths and actions, for spiritual growth and maturity to God’s Word. I would like to find a Mennonite church here in the Dixon area. I would also like to find a Bible church in the Sauk Village area for a brother in Christ’s wife and family to attend.

Name not given – Pray for Dillon, Devon, Stella and Sophia.

Joseph – I respectfully ask that you pray for my family and everyone I come in contact with.

Steve – Pray that God will continue to bless an ongoing relationship I have with a church in Chicago with whom I correspond on a regular basis with the minister and members of the congregation, for God to continue to watch out for his family during the temporary separation, that He gives me the wisdom to be able to accept His teachings and what He is trying to accomplish in my life, that all the things that happen to me are to help me become a better husband, father and person. Amen

Sean – Please pray for the solution of all the lost that they will somehow be led to Christ through another individual being guided by Christ. Please pray for Pam, Tom, Sarah, Bridgette and Brandon and the whole family that they will stay physically and emotionally safe. Pray for all the people that are spreading the ‘Good News’, also that none of us walking with Christ will be led astray.

Courtney – Father I would like to start off by saying thank you very much for waking me up this morning and blessing me with another day. Father I ask You to take care of every situation that may be hindering my family and those around my family from growing in You. I also ask that you keep them from harm and keep them healthy.

David G. – I would like a prayer to go out to my three children, my children’s mother is also incarcerated so are children are in foster homes so a prayer for them would be nice.

Wayne – I’ve been worried about my girlfriend and kids lately. I haven’t heard anything from them and I’m afraid that they may be letting go of me. I pray that I hear from them soon and that everything is all right. Thank you

Robert – Father God in the name of Jesus of Nazareth I pray that it be your will for me to come out of this place and go back to Chicago, IL, ask that your Holy Spirit to lead me and guide me, also I ask that You will call my children’s names out in prayer that they’ll forgive their dad for not being in their lives.

William S. – Continue to advance the Kingdom of God and wait for specific direction from God to move forward. Thank you for joining and agreeing with me in prayer.

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:36 ESV)
